The more I learn and am surrounded by the fashion world, the more I see the intense relationship between visual art and fashion. There are great similarities when writing about fashion and art. There is a stimulation of emotions, thoughts, and questions, as well as both having a connection to current events and issues.
Lastly was Michael Dean, an artist who mixes word and sculpture. Through his presentation for the Turner prize Dean both created an experience that was recognizable, through common objects and body forms, as well as thought provoking. The main installment consisted of 20,436 pennies, which is the amount the British government states is the minimum a family of four, two parents and two children, need to survive. Dean took the piece one step further by removing one single coin, making the work one penny under the poverty line. The thin rectangular cement sheets, with only cut out eyeholes to personify the family, sent a shiver down the back of your neck.
Dean is my choice for the Turner Prize but we will have to see when the winner is announced this December.
